Le Cong Vinh completes coaching internship in Japan, aiming for AFC A License

Vietnam's former top striker Le Cong Vinh has just completed a 10-day coaching internship at Hokuriku University in Japan from September 6 to 15, 2026. This is a mandatory practical phase in his AFC A license program (Phase 2), supervised by Japan Football Association (JFA) instructors. During the internship, Vinh directly led three training sessions with the university's first team – a squad that recently reached the national student championship finals – focusing on attacking, defending, and counter-attacking themes. He must submit an analytical report for JFA instructor evaluation before advancing to the final phase (Phase 3) in December 2026. Supported by VFF Technical Director Koshida Takeshi, who arranged the internship with Hokuriku, Vinh stated that studying in Japan gives him access to a more updated curriculum than in Vietnam. 'I want to expand relationships and learn from an advanced football nation,' he shared. JFA President Miyamoto also sent congratulations, praising the 41-year-old former player's determination. With 51 goals for the national team, an AFF Cup title and numerous individual awards, Vinh is following the standard pathway: the AFC A license is expected to be awarded in April 2027, after which he can pursue the Pro license. This internship is not only a personal step but also a bridge between Vietnamese and Japanese football, opening opportunities for other former national team players to follow. Domestic public opinion is optimistic, hoping he will soon become a high-quality coach for Vietnamese football in the future.
